Weekly, on-site Covid testing resumes this Friday at Valley Vista. Our goal to have 90% of our students & staff testing regularly so that we can identify asymptomatic cases and keep our school safer for all.

Remember that this weekly testing will fulfill the testing requirements for intermural sports (soccer & basketball), 6^th grade camp, and anytime your child is exposed to Covid at school.

If you have not already done so, use this link to register your children for weekly testing at school. https://school.covidclinic.org  You will need each student’s ID#. You must also complete Part Two which is ordering an actual test. Without this second step completed by noon Thursday, we will not have a test kit prepared for your child by testing day – Friday. Once both parts are complete, the order will repeat itself every week. Your confirmation email will read: Your Order has been Placed. If you have registered and ordered, the only reason we would not test your child at school is if your child has been positive for Covid within the past 90 days.

Literacy Week is next week. Several informational flyers for the main events of this week were sent home. Please read them carefully as they require that you set-up accounts to support our school fundraising efforts and some planning may be needed for your children to participate in the Spirit Week and Wednesday’s parade.

en español: Las pruebas semanales de COVID en la escuela se reanudan este viernes. Entre más estudiantes y personal realicen estas pruebas con regularidad, más segura estará nuestra escuela. Si aún no lo ha hecho, use este enlace para registrar a sus hijos para las pruebas. https://school.covidclinic.org  Necesitará el número de identificación de cada estudiante. Después de registrarse, debe completar la segunda parte, que es solicitar una prueba. Sin este segundo paso, no tendremos un kit de prueba preparado para sus hijos este viernes. Problems with Dismissal Traffic: We had a couple auto accidents and several close calls between pedestrians and cars within the last couple of weeks. As a result, the staff that helps during these critical minutes are wanting to stop putting themselves out there because of the speed and aggressiveness of a few drivers. We recognize that the vast majority of you are driving carefully, following the rules, and practicing patience – Thank you, Thank you! We have reached out to both CHP, which supports our Safety Patrol, and the Sherriff’s Department for support because some continue to make dangerous U-Turns or are crossing streets unsafely with children in tow. I remind you that this crunch time only last about 15 minutes and that patience and respect for the rules are key in maintaining safety for all. The rules are simple:

1) No U-Turns  

2) No Double Parking  

3) No crossing middle streets

*Do walk to Safety Patrolled corners

Monday 2/14 Valentine’s Day: Keep in mind that our District’s Wellness Policy does not allow us to celebrate with food treats. However, teachers will provide a short exchange time at the end of the school day. Be aware that students may be going home with some treats.

Tuesday, 2/15 Principal’s Coffee: Please stop by the Food Arbor on Tuesday for a special coffee treat for parents & teachers starting at 7:45 AM     ~coffee cart

4-Day Weekend – Washington & Lincoln’s Birthdays – No School on Friday 2/18 and next Monday 2/21

Only 1 positive Covid case was reported last week at school. Our weekly, on-site Covid testing doubled in numbers. A few glitches are being worked out but in it went quite well.

en español: Problemas con el tráfico al final del día escolar: Tuvimos un par de accidentes automovilísticos y hemos tenido varios casi-accidentes entre peatones y automóviles en las últimas 2 semanas. El personal que ayuda en estos minutos críticos quiere dejar de ayudar por la velocidad y agresividad de algunos conductores. Reconocemos que la gran mayoría de ustedes manejan con cuidado y siguen las reglas y se les agradece mucho!. Sin embargo, nos hemos comunicado con CHP y Departamento del Sherif para obtener apoyo porque hay algunos que continúan haciendo giros en U y otros que están cruzando las calles de manera peligrosa y con niños a cuestas. Les recuerdo que este tiempo crítico a la salida de clases solo dura unos 15 minutos y que la paciencia y el respeto por las reglas es clave para mantener la seguridad de todos. Las reglas son sencillas:

1) No dar vueltas en U

2) No estacionar en doble fila

3) No cruzar calles intermedias

*Favor de caminar hasta las esquinas que son patrulladas durante los minutos críticos.

Lunes 2/14, Día de San Valentín. La Política de Bienestar del Distrito no nos permite celebrar con golosinas. Sin embargo, los maestros proporcionarán un breve tiempo de intercambio al final del día escolar. Tome en cuenta que es posible que los estudiantes lleguen a sus casas con algunos dulces.

Martes, 2/15, Cafecito con la Directora. pase a la plaza del almuerzo este martes para disfrutar de un cafecito especial para padres y maestros a partir de las 7:45 a.m.

Fin de semana de 4 días – Celebrando el cumpleaños de Washington y Lincoln – No habrá clases el viernes 18 y el próximo lunes día 21.

Solo se informó 1 caso positivo de Covid la semana pasada en la escuela. Las pruebas semanales de Covid en la escuela se duplicaron en número. Se están solucionando algunos detalles, pero salió bastante bien.

Spring Picture Day will be February 9^th. A flyer was sent home last week and is posted here as well. Every child will have their picture take on Wednesday. You can preorder using the code on this flyer. You will also be able to order after seeing the proofs using an individual code that will be sent later. 

El día de fotografías de la primavera será este miércoles 9 de febrero. Se envió un volante a casa la semana pasada y se encuentra el volante aquí. This is a VAPA week at school. All students will benefit from; Science, Art, Theater, and/or Dance/PE. Performers and case members of our Variety Show, which will take place in March, will have rehearsal this week.

Our first Covid testing day went very well. We tested 115 students, plus staff on Friday.  If you haven’t done so yet, you can scroll to the 2/2/22 post for the link & information on registering and ordering weekly Covid tests at school for your children. Remember that if your child was positive for Covid within 90-days of the school’s test-day, we will not test your child that day.

Solo 2 casos positivos se reportaron la semana pasada en la escuela – un numero bastante bajo en comparación de las semanas anteriores. Nos fue muy bien en nuestro primer día administrando las pruebas de Covid el viernes pasado. Evaluamos a 115 estudiantes, más el personal. Si gusta registrar a sus hijos y solicitar las pruebas semanales pueden encontrar la información en este blog escolar en la publicación con la fecha 2/2/22. And finally, we are beginning to plan for next school year which will begin in July. Any perspective parents of Transitional Kinder (TK) or regular Kindergarten students are invited to attend an online District Informational Meeting on February 16^th at 6 PM. See flyer attached below.

If you would like to take advantage of this free and convenient service, you must register your children by using the link provided to you via your email last week. You may also get there using this link: https://school.covidclinic.org

To register your account, click the parent/guardian tab. Fill in your information and then your children’s information. You will need each child’s student ID#. You will then be prompted to Part Two which is ordering a test for your children.  This second step must be completed by 2 PM Thursday to ensure we have a test kit prepared for your child by Friday. After doing this the first time, the order will repeat itself every week – no further action will be needed. You will receive an email confirming Your Order has been Placed.

To revoke or skip testing at any time after that email: k12@covidclinic.org

Anyone that has tested positive for Covid would want to skip PCR testing for 90-days as this could result in false positives.

On Friday, teams will go to each classroom to test students & staff that are registered and have ordered their tests. This will take approximately 10 minutes per class. Any positive results will be reported to you and the district.

Weekly testing of all students & staff at school will increase our ability to keep our school safe and open during this pandemic. It also removes the burden from you to take your children to get tested after every exposure, and it will fill the weekly testing requirement for sports team participation.
