This week is the Great Kindness Challenge: a national movement in schools across the country that we proudly participate in every year. The challenge is to perform as many random acts of kindness as possible in one week, building good habits and spreading love & happiness. Please click on the Read Alouds & Videos tab above to see the awesome video that our Student Council, with the incredible support of Mrs. Barroso and Mrs. Romo, have put together to get all our students on board for our Kindness Spirit Week which starts this Monday.

Esta semana es dedicada a la Amabilidad en las escuelas de todo el país y nosotros participamos cada año con mucho orgullo. Es un enfoque y un reto para ver cuántos actos de amabilidad puede uno hacer en una semana si se dedica a ello. Este reto, nos inculca buenas costumbres y contagia a los demás a hacer lo mismo. This Monday, the 18^th is a holiday in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and so, there will be no classes on Monday.  Classes will resume Tuesday the 19^th as usual.

We had our first 4 days of school for Q3 and seeing your children’s faces and hearing their voices warmed our hearts and strengthened our resolve to ensure they keep learning, stretching their thinking and becoming the intelligent adults we will need leading us someday. We remind them, and you, that learning & improving yourself takes work, because it does not usually come easily. We build stamina (our strength) through this productive struggle, perseverance (never giving-up) and positive relationships with our teachers and peers. These days it seem especially necessary that we emphasize the importance of kindness, self and mutual respect, as well as respect for our system of government and the processes therein. History is a living thing. As we watch it unfold, sometimes more harshly than others, we can rely on our past to make sense of the present and keep us optimistic for apromising future. But it all boils down to the education of our children because they are our future. We stand ready to support you in that.

Please join me in a Principal’s Coffee this Thursday, January 14^th at 5 PM. I would like to update you on our plan to welcome students back to school in-person as soon as our area infection rates allow. We don’t know when that will be but we have a plan and a very important Parent Survey will be going out later this week. We will discuss it in detail during this chat on Thursday. Please save the date & time: 1/14 at 5 PM. I will send the Teams link and post it here and in Schoolwide ClassDojo on Wednesday as a reminder of Thursday’s Principal’s Coffee. En español: Logramos los primeros 4 días de clases del tercer cuatrimestre y ver las sonrisas y escuchar sus voces de sus hijos conmovió nuestros corazones y fortaleció nuestra determinación para asegurarnos de que ellos sigan aprendiendo, ampliando sus pensamientos y convirtiéndose en los adultos inteligentes que necesitaremos para guiar nuestro país algún día. Les recordamos a ellos y a ustedes que aprender y mejorarse generalmente no es fácil y requiere esfuerzo, perseverancia (nunca rendirse) y relaciones positivas con sus maestros y compañeros de clase. Especialmente en estos días, hacemos hincapié en la importancia de la bondad, el respeto propio y mutuo, así como el respeto por nuestro sistema de gobierno y los procesos en él. La historia de un país sucede en vivo. Sin embargo, podemos refleccionar sobre nuestro pasado para darle sentido al presente y mantenernos optimistas de un futuro prometedor. Pero todo se reduce a la educación de nuestros hijos porque ellos son nuestro futuro. Nos mantenemos listos para apoyarlos a ustedes en este esfuerzo tan crítico.

Los invito a un Cafecito con conmigo este jueves 14 de enero a las 5 PM. Quiero que platiquemos en detalle sobre el plan para abrir la escuela para que nuestros estudiantes asistan en persona tan pronto como lo permitan las tasas de infección en nuestra zona. Aunque no sabemos cuándo será, tenemos un plan y una Encuesta para ustedes, los Padres se publicará a finales de esta semana. Por favor, guarde la fecha: este jueves, 14 a las 5 p.m. Enviaré el enlace de Teams y lo publicaré en este blog este miércoles como recordatorio del cafecito con la directora.

Tuesday, January 5^th, is the first day of the third Quarter of this most unusual schoolyear. The wonderful thing about the start of the 3^rd quarter every year is that it always comes right at the start of the new calendar year. Starting a new calendar year sparks a sense of being able to start over, to leave old, not-so-good habits behind and to set new, optimistic goals for ourselves. Finding ourselves in the middle of the schoolyear, it allows us to look at what we’ve accomplished so far and reset ourselves for success and progress for the remainder of this schoolyear.

January will be a month to focus on Kindness and how we can contribute to our communities’ Social Harmony. February reminds us to appreciate & build-on friendships & positive relationships. And before we know it, March will bring Parent-Teacher conferences around again and hopefully an exhilarating Spring Break.

So, we recommit to learning and making the best of our time together.

Students, start getting to bed early and waking up early enough to be ready for class by 8:15 AM this Tuesday morning.  We have missed you and look forward to seeing you again.

En español: El martes 5 de enero es el primer día del tercer cuatrimestre de este año escolar tan extraño. Lo maravilloso del inicio del tercer cuatrimestre de cada año escolar es que siempre llega justo al comienzo del nuevo año para todos. Comenzar un nuevo año genera una sensación de poder comenzar de nuevo, dejar atrás viejos y no-tan-buenos hábitos y poder establecer nuevos objetivos con optimismo. Nos encontrarnos a la mitad del año escolar, y esto nos permite tiempo para refeccionar sobre lo que hemos logrado hasta ahora y restablecer objetivos para el éxito y el progreso durante el resto de este año escolar.

Enero será un mes para enfatizar la bondad y maneras para contribuir a la armonía social de nuestro país. Febrero nos recuerda que debemos apreciar y construir amistades y relaciones positivas para nuestro bienestar. Y muy pronto, marzo traerá conferencias entre padres y maestros y las vacaciones de primavera.

Mientras tanto, volvemos a comprometernos a aprender y aprovechar al máximo nuestro tiempo juntos. Estudiantes, comiencen a acostarse temprano y a despertarse lo suficientemente temprano para estar listos para clases que empiezan a las 8:15 este martes por la mañana.

 ¡Les deseamos un muy Feliz Año Nuevo! Que el año 2021 les traiga alegría y paz. Y que se encuentren bien en la sana compañía de sus seres queridos.
